What’s Megan doing?

Megan is sitting next to me on a mat on the floor with her five-year-old cousin, Win, playing a Putt-Putt game on the computer.

Normally, Megan’s game playing is strictly limited and she is not allowed to watch English movies nor games during the daytime. She is allowed to utilize http://www.pbskids.org website for learning purposes.

However, because Win is beside her, Megan has to translate from the English into Vietnamese for Win to understand the game. So Win learns how to use the computer and Megan keeps talking in Vietnamese.

Megan can talk for hours in Vietnamese. There is many words that she does not know, but most of the time when she is talking with either Mai, the rest of the family or other Vietnamese, I do not even understand what they are talking about.

I have been very remiss in not learning Vietnamese, but somehow I cannot get motivated to learn it. I’m tone-deaf so learning it is a very “up hill battle”. Not that that is a good excuse, but I’m very happy that Megan speaks much better Vietnamese than I speak. LOL.

Of course, Mai’s mother and sister are watching TV — like in the US, the TV occupies the center of attention in the living room.
